Business Casual Shoes for a Tropical Professional

My friend Greta just moved to Hawaii to be a professor. Isn't that awesome?
She needs shoes that you can wear in a hot, humid environment but still look professional and adult for when she teaches.
Flip flops are out, as are boots or leather shoes.

Some people out there "say no to toe" at work, but I think that properly done, you can wear sandals that show some toe.

Here are some options for women and men who work in hot places, or have to go to work in the summer (unlike the lucky professors).

$57 Generic Surplus Chambray and Navy Borstal
These canvas shoes also come in other combinations; I like the cream and navy almost as much.

$52 Generic Surplus Obey in Navy
These mesh shoes look normal from afar but are ultimately breathable and cool.

$75 Sperry Topsider Angelfish in linen and oat
Boat shoes are a good choice for hot wet places, since they are made to be worn in those conditions.

$76 David Tate Smooth sandalWhen you teach, you stand up and move around a lot, so flat shoes are ideal. This sandal is almost flat but has a small wedge. It also covers most of the toes but has the peep-toe front for ventilation, which I think is ok for work.

$56 Stacy Adams Valencia sandal
These cutouts let your feet breathe, but from the top it looks like you have a whole shoe on.

$53 Polo Ralph Lauren Rylander
This shoe has a canvas base and then leather up top to dress it up a bit.

$69 Naturalizer Potion
Perforated peep-toe perfection.

$40 Crocs Adrina Flat
I can't believe I am recommending Crocs at all, let alone for work, but these are actually cute. I saw them on a girl on the subway today and wondered what they were. Basically, a holey-er and more casual version of the Naturalizers above.
