This article at The Frenemy goes through what it would cost to live like Carrie Bradshaw does on SATC, and what she actually makes.
Here is the thesis statement:
"Carrie Bradshaw, you gotta be tripping balls to have us believe that you can sustain yourself that extravagantly on that one stupid-ass column. You lying bitch!"

The math kind of breaks down at the end, but the point is valid.
