Boring shoelaces? How about 19K gold ones?

I don't really understand how today, in the same world where the Occupy Wall St etc movements are happening, that this product could A) exist and B) be successful, but here we are.

$19,000 shoelaces, made of real gold.
$3,000 if you want the silver version.

They are hand-woven, according to the Mr. Kennedy website where you can buy them.

I am interested in what kind of weave they use because I would imagine it would be hard to get a string-like texture. How do you tie them without stretching or compressing the fine wires? No one likes dents in their gold shoelaces, that's for sure.
