DIY Camera Wrap

Check out this post at DesignSponge to learn how to make a wool wrap for your camera.

The guy who wrote the post has a Pendleton Outlet near him where he got the wool scrap, which made me wonder where those are and if I can go to one.
Here's what I found: NYers are out of luck, but CA, IN, WA, PA, TN, TX, OH, OR, MI, MO, MN, NE, NV, UT and VA people are in luck.

Etsy Finds of the Day: Vintage Kitchen Gear

Etsy has a ton of cute old jars, cups, post and pans, and bowls.

$10.99 Yellow enamel saucepan
I love the shape of the pan and the handle. Isn't it retro-futuristic like the Jetsons?
It's a small pot so it would be good for heating up milk, a sauce (duh), or maple syrup or something.

$25 Set of 4 wooden leaf bowls
These are 10" long and 3" wide and could be used to serve appetizers or side dishes or hold snacks, but you could also use them as desk accessories to hold paperclips and rubber bands, or for anything else.

$12.99 Mint green cup and saucer
Cute, yeah? The milky material makes the cup look like it is glowing. And I like the hospital green, even though it is kinda weird.

Etsy Finds of the Day: Fabric bucket bags from JennaRoseHandmade

At the Jenna Rose Handmade etsy store, you can find a variety of fabric buckets with leather handles to hold all your odds and ends in the house while still looking neat and chic.

She also sells hampers and pillows made from the same fabric, so if you like one of the prints, you can carry it through to other parts of your home.

$46 Ships bucket
I like this heavily-lined print

$46 Tree house bucket

$46 Honeycomb bucket

$46 Berries bucket

Atomic alarm clock and forecaster

When I wake up, the first thing I want to know is what time it is.
The second thing I want to know is what the weather will be so I can plan what I am going to wear.
This ingenious device shows you both those things at a glance, and changes what it shows you as you approach it.

$37.95 Oregon Scientific BAR200A Weather in Motion Atomic clock

Check out how it works:
The current time, day and weather forecast display in large digits and icons when you are far away from the weather clock. As you approach the unit, the Weather in Motion switches to showing the indoor and outdoor temperature readings, while the time and weather forecast icons automatically reduce in size. You can also set to auto "scroll" mode and the display will smoothly shift the information every five seconds.

Printed clothes with horses from ASOS

More clothes with animal prints (i.e. prints made up of animals, not patterned like an animal)!
First installment.
Second installment.

$57.50 Ruby Rocks Rodeo Shirt
This cute button up shirt has brown and white horse friends printed on it.

I think it is a knockoff of this one:
$287.52 Virginie Castaway horse print shirt
This shirt has a tighter and smaller print than the one above, but has the same white and brown twin horse design (all right-side-up here).
I thought that for the price, this one would be silk, but it turns out both of the shirts are viscose, so I advise going with the cheaper one here.

$37.74 petite horse print tunic
I like the tie at the neck on this one, and the half-sleeve length.

$71.88 Galloping horse dress
The bow (they are technically called "pussy bows" but I can't bring myself to use that term) and the wide sleeves with tight cuffs make this very feminine.

Boring shoelaces? How about 19K gold ones?

I don't really understand how today, in the same world where the Occupy Wall St etc movements are happening, that this product could A) exist and B) be successful, but here we are.

$19,000 shoelaces, made of real gold.
$3,000 if you want the silver version.

They are hand-woven, according to the Mr. Kennedy website where you can buy them.

I am interested in what kind of weave they use because I would imagine it would be hard to get a string-like texture. How do you tie them without stretching or compressing the fine wires? No one likes dents in their gold shoelaces, that's for sure.

Etsy Finds of the Day: Art Deco Diamond Rings

I love the Art Deco period and the lines of the jewelry at the time.
Let's learn about it:

Led by the best designers in the decorative arts such as fashion, and interior design, Art Deco affected all areas of design throughout the 1920s and 1930s, including architecture and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as painting, the graphic arts and film. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, glamorous, functional and modern.
Abstract motives and geometrical forms are quite typical for the Art Deco period. Art Deco moved away from the soft pastels and organic forms of its style predecessor, Art Nouveau, and embraced influences from many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and continued strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative.

Here are some great rings from Etsy:

$1,489 white gold and diamond ring
This ring demo the 1930s features 2 ct of diamonds in a starburst pattern. I tried on a vintage Cartier ring once that looked a little like this and it was AWESOME. If you are going for bling, do it up and get a cocktail style ring like this.

$1,690 Diamond and sapphire ring
I have never seen a ring like this with the open space inside the square and the diamonds standing out alone in the center. Very chic.

$1,950 Diamond and Pearl yellow gold deco ring
Diamonds are cold and pearls are warm in tone, so putting them together can be hard. The yellow gold in this ring does a good job of tying together the gems and warming up the diamonds. I love the little cups, they remind me of shells.

$1, 150 Vertical Diamond French art deco ring
This ring doesn't have much description, but it looks like it has silver settings and a gold band. The diamonds really stand out from the dark oxidized setting.

$1,750 Diamond deco wedding band
Doesn't this look like an eye? There is a ton of intricate work on the border, and I like the natural leaf pattern on the setting of the central diamond. A little bit more nouveau than deco, but wharves.

One way to look like a sexy secretary

I think the key is a hot dress under a tame cardigan, and little feminine accents like small jewelry.

$79.99 Sergeant pucker dress

$26.99 Crew neck black cardigan

$25 Flower pin (to put on one side of the cardigan near your shoulder)

$88 Dabby Reid Gold 3 strand pearl necklace

$88.85 Nina pink peeptoe pumps with black piping

New #1 Shoe on my Most Wanted List

$87 Feud Dynamic Boot in Mushroom
There is so much going on in these shoes!
The deep V, the cutouts on the side, the hidden wedge, the metal heel. Whoa.
Plus the herringbone pattern and the shiny finish.
They also come in black, which I really like too, but I think I slightly prefer these at least in the pictures because the pattern stands out more.

Sometimes it can be hard to wear booties with skirts because they cut off your ankle and make your legs look short, but since these have the deep V, they continue your leg line and you won't have cankles.

Anyone want to buy them for me? Size 7 please.

A Great Grandma Gift

It's hard to shop for grandparents, and it's hard to buy technology for them that they will use.
Kill two birds with one stone by buying a wireless photo printer for them and email pictures to it that will automatically print out.
Of course, you are going to have to visit and set it all up first.

If I were in the market for a printer that you could set up, leave, and trust to print out your pictures, I'd get this one:
$89.99 HP PhotoSmart Plus e-All-in-one printer

It offers a variety of ways to print- using the HP system (blah), with your phone, or most easily, by emailing the printer's special email address.
It also does the normal printing stuff if grandma needs that.

It comes with ink cartridges, and it has 5 colors which means the pics will look better and brighter.

Let me know if you get one and how it works out.

I think it would really brighten up someone's day to have random pictures coming in of people they love.

Tie Racks and Storage Options

Do you have a lot of ties?
Where do you keep them?

There are a bunch of options out there for tie racks and devices to keep your ties unwrinkled and easily accessible.

I think you should be fancy and get a rotating one with lights, because how slick and James Bond is that?
Plus, it is a really affordable luxury, and once you are past the point of just hanging ties from a normal hanger, might as well spend $20 more and get a really cool thing, no?

$39.99 Brookstone rotating tie rack
This automatic tie rack gets great reviews and has a space for belts as well

$39.99 Sharper Image motorized tie rack
Want a shiny silver one instead?

$23.95 Necktie Accessories Silver electric tie rack
This one mounts on a wall so you don't have to give up any precious hanging space in your closet. You can mount it to the side wall of the closet below your shirts or in front of everything, if you have room.

Are you more of a traditionalist?
You don't need lights and motors and batteries?
Ok, here are some other options:

 $29.99 Carousel tie rack
I loooove this wall-mounted one. You manually spin it around. Holds 23 ties.

$7.09 Walnut Tie hanger
Pretty self-explanatory, here. Holds 24 ties.

$6.46 Non-slip tie rack
These spokes have rubber coverings so the ties don't fall off onto the closet floor and stay there for months collecting dust. Not that that ever happens to you.

This is the one E got at Ikea, but you have to go to the store to buy it:
$7.99 Komplement multi-use hanger

The only reason to miss Qaddafi: The Outfits

Let's not let all the celebrating and speculation and political upheaval distract us from one important point: Qaddafi had some great rock star outfits.
If only Obama could be so sartorially crazy.

Let's remember the glory and glitz together:

Shiny Eggplant Monster!

One of these dignitaries is not like the others....

Outrage casual attire, please.

No, I'm a fancy boat captain!

Tousled and ready to torture.

Blanche Devereaus called...but you can keep it.

And this badge I got for the Lockerbie bombing; when I finally got my Backing Terrorists award.

Want more?
Here are some slide shows and a video so you can relive the wardrobe highlights, hopefully without the killing of civilian dissidents parts.

youtube:

Want to look like The Little Princess?

$58.99 Makenna Mills Tweed Dress

Doesn't this dress look like something right out of The Little Princess?

You can be a grown up, rich looking Shirley Temple for under $60 by wearing this.
I would wear it as a sleeveless coat over another dress because it looks too spare and short to be worn alone.

Don't forget your muff!
$30 Faux Fur Muff
I had one of these as a kid and I thought it was the most elegant thing ever. Plus, harder to lose than a glove or mitten, in retrospect.

And certainly don't forget your shiny Mary Janes:
$142 Camper Kim patent leather Mary Janes

or if it is cold, your lace-up boots with tons of eyelets:
$109 Steeple Antique Saddle Leather lace up boots

And a little hat tops it off:
$38 Vintage 1930s Felted wool hat

or you could get this rabbit fur set but then I will be sad:
$45 Vintage rabbit fur hat and muff set

Etsy Finds of the Day

$95 Sprinkles Shoes
Glitter heels are all the rage, but wouldn't you rather have sprinkles? Like, real ones? You can't eat them for a snack because they are shellacked down, but they are still useful as footwear. They go with everything because they have every color.
You can get them in this style or in a higher platform. I think go for the higher platform because the shoes are already insane, might as well make them stand out even more. Don't try to disguise this as an everyday work pump.

$76 Double Collar Fleece Hoodie
This looks really soft and warm. I like the highlights of red and how there are so many ways to wear the collars.

$35 Vintage 1970s Plaid dress (size 7/8)
This is so Fall! And very schoolgirl cute. I love the buttons down the side. Plaid is in, still, so go for it!
