I am always on the hunt for a great almost-bare share of lipstick, and my current favorite for the last 6 months has been MAC Slimshine Lipstick in Scant.
It's a narrow tube, and it goes on very smoothly and easily and feels slick and oily (but in a good way). Despite this, the tube actually lasts a long time and doesn't get worn down as quickly as a lip butter or tinted gloss stick.
Scant seems to be a little bit darker than my natural lip color but not very different, and I think it makes me look polished and put together but not super makeup-y.
I was introduced to it by my friend Becca who is a makeup artist and owns a makeup salon downtown called Rouge (check it out!).We were figuring out looks for my wedding and I liked a lot of the lipsticks we tried, but we decided that for the natural but rosy effect we were going for that Scant was the winner.
It's described as a light berry mauve pink.
And I've been wearing it a lot ever since!
It is shiny and smooth but not glossy or sticky.
Now I just went to the MAC website to get a pic and pricing, and it looks like they don't make it anymore.
BOOOOOOooooooo
But I think the line of Slimshine lipsticks became Sheen Supreme lipstick and I think the Fashion City or Impressive colors look closest.
$17 MAC Sheen Supreme lipstick in Fashion City
Here is what they say about it:
"Combining
the colour impact of a Lipstick with the shine sheen of a Lipglass,
Sheen Supreme creates the perfect hybrid - with no compromise.
Lightweight, non-sticky, slick to apply and comfortable to wear. This is
a must-have for all those who have craved this kind of fusion."
This review says the Sheen Supremes have more pigment than the Slimshines so maybe they aren't going to be a dupe.
Looks like I can get a tube of discontinued Scant here for $13.50 and I might, just to have another for when mine runs out.

Cyber Monday Sales
Here are 2 lists I liked of the sales that are happening today:
1. Lucky
2. College Fashion
I think the best deals I've found so far have been the Gap 40% and Old Navy 30% off, and the Betsey Johnson 40% off plus free shipping.
Amazon's deals have been totally underwhelming.
I think there are good deals at Walmart, but please do not shop at Walmart. They are the worst.
My picks (taken from College Fashion):
Betsey Johnson has the following deal: take an extra 40% off your purchase, plus get free shipping with code SHOP40.
Butter London will be offering 20% off all regular-priced products and 50% off all “last-call” items. Enter code CYBER13 at checkout.
James Perse
is having a holiday sale, with up to 50% off men’s and women’s apparel
in all categories. Plus, get free shipping with no minimum when you use
code JPVIP2013CM.
Levi’s will give you 40% off sitewide plus free shipping on all orders with code CYBER40.
Need Supply Co. has a code that’s good for 20% off sitewide through 12/3: enter EVERYTHING20 at checkout.

6 Pleather Jackets that will be 50% off starting Friday
For Black Friday, Urban Outfitters is doing half off the already reduced sale items.
I found a few cute things but I was very impressed at all the pleather jackets that will be super cheap once they are an additional 50% off.
If you are looking for one or if you like the style of the leather arm jackets but don't want to commit to the cost of a real one, these are great options.
My picks:
Members Only hooded bomber (originally $99, will be $25)
This has a pleather body and cloth sleeves.
Silence and Noise hooded bomber (originally $99, will be $25)
Brown pleather all over.
byCorpus Plaid moto jacket (originally $89, will be $25)
Silence and Noise quilted bomber (originally $99, will be $25)
I like the diamond quilted pattern.

I want the slouchy cashmere tunic from Everlane
$140 Slouchy cashmere tunic
It comes is dark grey (shown), taupe, and black. I think I need all three. They are just so perfectly casual but luxurious at the same time.
If you don't know about Everlane, it's a web-only store that tries to eliminate the middlemen in the sales process and cut down on costs while delivering high-quality items for regular prices.
Nothing on Everlane is "cheap" per se, but the idea is that you are paying a normal sweater price for a way fancier version of the sweater. This would probably cost $300+ at a normal store.

Leather drawstring bag for Annie
My friend Annie is back with a new request for shopping help. This time, she wants "A drawstring leather handbag that is cross body and no more than $375" without logos or too much hardware.
Let's go shopping!
The first thing that I would say here is that I think when Annie says "drawstring" she really means "bucket bag" since those typically have drawstring closures. That term definitely gets more search results.
Second, Annie didn't specify color, but since she is allergic to that word (moreso than to mosquitos?), I am going to assume she wants black, brown, or gray. Something cheerful, you know?
Here are some options:
$225 Cynthia Rowley bucket bag
This one is 7" wide, 10.25" tall, with a 48" shoulder strap and drawstring cinch closure. That is on the small end of sizes but a good size for a purse if you aren't trying to shove your whole life into it.
It comes in black and brown but the brown seems to be out of stock now.
$199 Status Anxiety Distant Lover bucket bag
About the same size, this bag is 10x11" and is made of pebbled leather (good for not showing scratches) with nickel hardware.
$140 Baggu Leather bucket bag
This is the quintessential bucket bag without any markings or logos, as far as I am concerned. It is 6x9"
The natural color pictured can be found at Needsupply
A caramel version can be found at Urban Outfitters
A black version can be found at baggu.com
$198 Free People Tajos Shredded suede bucket bag
This is kind of fringed and cut along the body of the bag. It is larger than the previous bags at 12x14"
It also come in gold but bleucccchh.
$81 Vintage Coach leather bucket bag
Ebay has a bunch of these leather bucket bags available now, and they are 8x10.5" It has two outside pockets that I like.
$108 Vintage black leather bucket bag with brass decoration
I like this one but I think it might be too "flashy" for Annie because of the baubles, we'll see. 13x13"
I bet Annie will like the Cynthia Rowley or the Baggu bags the best.

Which Revlon Lip Butters DO and Don't Have Shimmer
I like the Revlon colorburst lip butters that I bought, but I vastly prefer the texture and look of the one that does not have shimmer.
I've done some research to keep from buying the wrong shade in the future and thought it might help you too:
No Shimmer BUY:
-Sugar Plum (neutral darker pink)
-Sweet Tart (medium pink)
-Candy Apple (sheer bright red)
-Creamsicle (sheer orange)
-Fig jam (warm brown)
-Wild Watermelon (hot pink)
-Tutti Frutti (sheer coral)
-Sorbet (orangey red pink)
-Pink Truffle (brownish pink)
-Juicy Papaya (orangey pink)
No Shimmer not for me (DON'T BUY unless looking for lipstick):
-Raspberry Pie (magenta)
-Red Velvet (rich red)
-Strawberry Shortcake (barbie light pink)
-pPink Lemonade (light milky pink)
Shimmer (DON'T BUY):
-Sugar Frosting
-Creme Brulee
-Lollipop
-Cotton Candy
-Peach Parfait
-Cupcake
-Berry Smoothie
-Gumdrop (lilac)
-Macaroon

What to get me for Chanukah
I am going to be good about updating my Amazon wish list this year!
I'll be putting things on there like rose gold hoops and the Essie nailpolishes I've been wanting.
If you are feeling generous and want to get me something, I would really love any of these items on the list :)

Candles by the hour
I saw these candles on Fab.com that I thought were cool.
They are coiled and you expose some of the candle at a time and then it automatically goes out when it burns down to the metal part so you don't set your house on fire by forgetting it.

$18 40 Hour Candle with box
Not bad, right?
If you like it, then you might want to go whole hog and get the big one:

$40 144 Hour Candle with box
The stands and whole apparatus come with it, and you can buy a replacement coil candle later if you need one.
Perfect present for your favorite steampunk or wanna-be writer friend to light up and pretend they are romantically doing something creative by candlelight.

Men's watches like the Shinola Runwell, AKA bargaining down my husband
E fell in love with the Shinola Runwell watch with either a blue or green dial and a brown leather strap. The watch is classic, clean, round, and easy to read.
I like the look of the watch, too.
What I did not like was that it was $550 and does not look like an expensive watch to me. It is a nice watch, and a sturdy one, but not a dress watch or one that you could wear with a suit or to a fancy occasion.
I asked him if I could have a little time to try to find one he liked nearly as much but for much cheaper, and he said ok. I knew I was in for a challenge since he was so enamored of this watch, but I found a bunch that I thought captured some of the look but less than half of the price.
First, let's look at the one he really likes:
$550 Shinola Runwell with green dial and brown leather strap
One thing E did not love about this watch was the large diameter of the face, which he wished was smaller.
Here are some that I found that are a little smaller but still easy to read, round, and have a cool non-traditional dial. The main thing E wanted was to avoid having "a boring watch."

$78 Fossil Men's watch DE5000
The bold numbers on this reminded me of the Runwell, but E didn't like the case shape.

$129 Fossil men's watch ME3018
While I was looking at the former style, this one caught my eye because I thought it was cool with the exposed gears, and even though it was not what E had in mind, he liked it a lot too.

$185 V03B Watch with green face
The perfectly round dial and green color made me think of the Runwell, but E didn't like this color of green and said it was "too military."

$89 Invicta I-Force 14786
The shiny and brighter blue color of this appealed to E, but not as much as the original one he was looking at. Too boring still.

$99 Invicta Lefty 1513
I thought he might like the number style and steep bevel on this one better, and he did, but still no dice.

$99 Hugo Boss Blue 1512790
Still on my blue kick, I found this which I thought looked more professional and still a fun color. "Just let me buy the one I liked."

$357 Victorinox 241290 Watch
Come on, this one is pretty damn close to the original, no?
"It's just as expensive as the one I like!"
-"No, it is $200 cheaper and that is a lot of money."

$65 Timex Easy Reader
"Oh I like that one, how much is it?
-$65.
Okay. But I wanted the leather strap. That strap is dumb.
-I can get you a leather strap on Amazon for $10. Here are 3 choices.
Fine."
YAY, SAVED $490!!!
Thanks, timex.
